Retirement tax questions
Did you enter your SS under the spot for W2 wages? If you only get SS you do not have to file a return except to get back any withholding taken out. SS is not taxable unless you have other income. And you can not efile a return with zero taxable income.
Or you have a W2 that transferred over from last year? Try to delete any W2s.
You can try to clear and start over,
Enter a SSA-1099, SSA-1099-SM or RRB-1099 under
Federal
Wages and Income tab
Then scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
Social Security (SSA-1099. RRB-1099) - click the Start or Update button
If you ONLY get SSI or Social Security or Social Security Disability or a SSA-1099 or RRB-1099 for railroad retirement you do not have to file a return. And there is no benefit to itemizing deductions or claiming dependents.
