Retirement tax questions
I'm thinking there could possible be penalties for prior year if an RMD was not made. A lot of these penalties in IRAs are cumulative and don't go away. Obviously a total distribution is more than the RMD.
Not sure why they did a total distribution either...could have done an inherited IRA....unless of course the was no named beneficiary or the estate was the beneficiary. I guess you get an inherited IRA if you are a named beneficiary.
