I received a 1099-R with a taxable amount in 2a for a payment received from a life insurance policy from a deceased parent. Do I need to report this?

Retirement tax questions

If the 1099-R was issued in your name and SSN, then yes, you do need to report it.

1.  Click Federal on the left-hand side menu.

2.  Click Income across the top.

3.  Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security and click Show more.

4.  Click Start or Revisit by IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).
