Retirement tax questions
I'm sorry for your loss.
No - You would file a joint return for the year of her death. The 1099-R income should go on her estate return (form 1041).

Retirement tax questions
Any 1099-R income after the date of death belongs to the named benificuary of the retirement account or the estate if there was no named benificuary. The 1099-R paid in 2018 should have a box 7 code indicating that the payment is inherited and the beneficiary SSN on the 1099-R.
