Retirement tax questions
It depends. First of all in entering your RMD, make sure you check the box in the form that mentions IRA/SIMPLE/SEP box is checked. Check the Box if not checked. Also make sure that the distribution code in Box 7, has a code 4.
- In the follow-up screen, Do any of these situations apply to you? Check the Box that mentions that you inherited this IRA.
- Next Screen will ask information about who this was inherited from.
- Then it asks if you deposit the funds in your own account.
- Then it asks when the spouse (or another person) was born. This actually triggers the RMD requirement.
- Then it asks how much of the distribution was an RMD distribution. How you answer this question is critical.
- Then it asks again what the required distribution amount should be. Turbo Tax does not calculate this for you.
See if this works.
