Retirement tax questions
To indicate that your MA state teacher pension is not taxable, please follow these steps:
- Go back to the 1099-R entry screen.
- In the State section, enter MA in the State ID box (box 13), even if there is no state withholding.
- A few screens later you should see the screen, Select Your State.
- Mark the box for Massachusetts and click Continue.
- On the screen, Massachusetts Special Handling About This 1099-R, mark the first radio button, Qualified government retirement distributions.
- Enter the MA distribution amount in the box (if it's not already there) and click Continue.
- Continue through the rest of the 1099-R screens.
-
When you go through your MA return, the distribution will not be taxable. It will show on the
Retirement/Pension Deduction Summary screen.
