Tax Year Prior to 2020: Where are Options Contracts gains/losses recorded in 2018 TurboTax. I cannot find the gains/losses I had. I can find interest, dividends, capital gains

Non-equity options are reported on Form 6781, but wind up on Schedule D.

 

Otherwise, you should find your gains/losses for options transactions on Form 8949 and Schedule D.

To be brought to the section of TurboTax where Sec 1256 Options Contracts data is entered, take the following steps:

 

  • Click on the Federal Taxes tab
  • Select the Wages and Income tab
  • Scroll down to  Investment Income
  • Next select Contracts and Straddles, and click the start button
  • Answer YES that you had Sec.1256 contracts

**Mark the post that answers your question by clicking on "Mark as Best Answer"

If the options were equity options, then the transactions should be entered in the Investment Income section as Stocks, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other.
