To enter mortgage interest (Form 1098):

  • Open (continue) your return if it's not already open.
  • Click on Orange box “Take me to my return” (if shown)
  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Under Your Home
  • On Mortgage Interest, click on the start or update button

To enter property tax:

  • Open (continue) your return if it's not already open.
  • Click on Orange box “Take me to my return” (if shown)
  • In the Search box (top right-hand corner), search for the exact phrase real estate taxes
  • Click on the Magnifying Glass icon or hit Enter.
  • Click on “Jump to real estate taxes” link high-lighted in Blue.
  • Answer Yes to the question Did you pay property or real estate taxes in 2016?
  • Enter your property/real estate taxes on the next screen.
When your property/real estate taxes are included on your 1098, you’ll enter them as part of your Mortgage Interest. But, if they aren’t listed on your 1098, you’ll enter them separately as property/real estate taxes.
