Can I claim education credit?

I'm a full time worker and part time college student.  It is taking me more than 4 calendar years to get my bachelors degree.  I already got my associates degree.  I only claimed the educational credit last year with my 1098-T.  Even though it is taking me more than 4 years, since I'm still working on my 4 year degree, can I claim either one of the tax credits?

Education

You can only get the AOC four times, even if it is taking you more than four years to get your degree.  You do not say how many times you used it.  And if you were ever claimed as a dependent by a parent who got AOC for you, those times "count."

Education

Maybe. There are two education credits and a tuition deduction. If you paid out of pocket or took out loans to pay for tuition, fees and books, you may qualify for a deduction or credit.

Look for the Education section under Deductions & Credits and answer the questions there. You will need a copy of your 1098-T form from your college and information about amounts spent on books.
