Claiming my college kids with a part time job

I have 3 kids, 2 of them worked part time made about $7000 and in college. they filed taxes and they put that they are not claimed by me. kids live with me, and I pay for their expenses, can I claim them?

Yes, you can still claim them as dependents as long as:

  1. They are students under age 24 at the end of the year;
  2. They have lived with you for more than half the year [being away at college is still considered living with you for tax purposes]; and
  3. They can't have provided more than half of their own support for the year.


However, you will have to mail in your return since your kids' social security numbers already appear on returns in the IRS system claiming themselves as dependents.  When the IRS gets your return, also claiming them as dependents, they will be contacting all of you to see who should get the deduction.
