Even though my husband title his position as a Retail Associate in reality he is a Gas Station Attendant for a Big Box retail chain in Alaska.

He has to lay caustic chemicals  to de-ice the ground and it eats through his boots by the time the season is out. Can he claim them? How can I communicate the deduction effectively?

This falls under unreimbursed employee expenses which used to be a deduction, but is no longer because of tax reform passed last year.  Under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) that Congress signed into law on December 22, 2017, the unreimbursed employee expenses deduction has been suspended in tax years 2018 through 2025.
