Do i need to have a mortgage on a house to be a home owner?

i am administrator to the estate and i now pay the taxes on a house that the mortgage is paid for. how do i claim as a home owner?

Deductions & credits

You do not need a mortgage.  If the house is now inherited by you, then you can claim the property taxes paid on your return.

You go to:

To enter Property Taxes

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits 
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Under Your Home
  • On Property Taxes, click on the start or update button
