You may not wish to remove the dependent from your
return even if you can't claim them, as they may otherwise qualify you for
other deductions and credits or for filing Head of Household. You can revisit
the questions for the dependent and indicate that you are not claiming them on
your return instead.
To remove the dependent from a return that you have not filed you will do the following:
- Log
in to your TurboTax Online account, or open your TurboTax CD/Download
program
- Click
Take me to my return
- Click
on Personal Info
- Find
the dependent's name that you want to remove from your return
- Click
to delete.
To delete a dependent on an amended/rejected return you will do
the following:
- Log
in to your TurboTax Online account, or open your TurboTax CD/Download
program
- Click
on Taxes
- Click
on My Tax Timeline
- Look
under the status of your 2016 return, and click to Amend your
return/or click Fix my return
- Once
in your return, you will, click on Personal Info
- Find
the dependent's name that you want to remove from your return
- Click
to delete.
