Deductions & credits

Greetings!

I wish I had a clear answer for you.  The IRS and news media have reported that there is a backlog of over 35 million tax returns to be processed.

This backlog is due to a number of factors.  The Covid-19 pandemic caused the IRS to close many of its centers and operations for health and safety reasons.  The backlog grew while the IRS tried to process stimulus payments and implement changes to the Child Tax Credit, unemployment income exclusion, and other similar provisions.

The IRS website may be able to help you determine the status of your refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

If you are experiencing financial hardship, the Taxpayer Advocate Service may be able to help you.  They are an independent organization within the IRS and they offer assistance both online and through local offices.  Their website is:

https://www.taxpayeradvocate.irs.gov/

I hope this is helpful, and I hope you get  your refund soon.

Kind regards,
