Deductions & credits

You can only claim tuition if you can claim the child as a dependent.  If you are not the custodial parent (where the child physically lived more than half of 2019) or have a signed 8332 form** releasing the dependent to you then you cannot claim the child or tuition.

 

**the 8332 form only applies to a minor child that has not become an adult in your state (age 18 in most states).  After then then the child must have lived with you to claim.
