Deductions & credits

When was your divorce finalized?

Alimonies for divorces and separations finalized after 2018 are no longer taxable or deductible.

If the divorce was finalized before 2019 -

Child support is not reported as income on a tax return.  You will have to know the amount of alimony being sent and report Only that amount on your tax return.  Speak with your attorney about this matter if you do not know the amount you should enter on the tax return.

To enter Alimony payments received -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Less Common Income
