Deductions & credits
If you want to receive any child-related credits you have to file a tax return that shows you earned income from working, so of course you have to put your W-2 on a tax return. The child-related credits such as earned income credit, childcare credit or child tax credit are only available to parents who work to earn income--you do not get those credits just for having children. Are you claimed as anyone else's dependent? You have not mentioned your filing status--are you single or married? Will you be filing with your spouse? ALL of your income must be reported on your tax return.
