California K-1

I live in Michigan but inherited money from California. I have a schedule K1 (541) California Schedule which shows the same amount in columns 5b and 5d with no other entries. Do I need to enter this on my Michigan tax return? Do I need to file a California return for this?

State tax filing

Yes and It depends.

The income that was reported to you on Form 541 K-1 is income earned on your portion of the trust or estate and that will be taxed on your Federal return as well as on your Michigan resident return.

You may need to file a California State tax return if you meet the filing requirements.  Here is a link to the California filing requirements for part-year and non-residents.

Scroll down to Non Residents to see the filing requirements by filing status.

Thanks for you help, but I don't see a link to the California filing requirements. Can you send that again?
