State tax filing

Some states are quicker than others; some are quite slow. And any of them can decide to examine a return more closely for various reasons.  Some states have had considerable delays as they crack down on fraudulent returns.

The Georgia tax website says:

  • Please allow 90 business days to process a return and issue a refund.
  • All first-time Georgia income tax filers, or taxpayers who have not filed in Georgia for at least five years, will receive a paper check.

But there are some things you can check.   First be sure it was sucessfully filed.  Did you efile, or did you choose to print, sign, and mail?

If you efiled, double-check with this tool to be sure the state return was efiled successfully and accepted:

If you filed by mail, did you print, sign, and mail it?  TurboTax does not mail it for you.

The following FAQ tells how to track a Georgia state refund.  You do NOT have to set up an account at the GA website.  Instead, look for a "Where's My Refund" link in the middle column.
