State tax filing
It depends on whether your changed your residence to the new state, or simply stayed there for medical purposes. If you never intended to remain in the new state and you didn't take action to change your state residency, and didn't earn wages there, you are considered a full year resident of the original state.
Actions that establish state residency include:
- Getting a driver's license.
- Registering to vote with your new address.
- Buying a home and applying for a homestead exemption (does not apply to all states).
- Changing your mailing address for utilities, banking, etc.
- Obtaining a registration for your car and pets.
