If you have not already e-filed your tax return you can see the following TurboTax FAQ for information on how to get to the area of your return to enter/change your bank account information.  Once in that area of your return, you can follow the steps listed at the bottom of the answer to change your information.

  • If you want to change or edit the banking information that is shown, make sure that the box stating "I want my refund deposited into this account" is unchecked.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select Continue.
  • You will be taken to a new screen titled, "Let's get your bank account info"
  • This will allow you to enter the new or updated banking information that is to be used for your 2016 direct deposit.

I have completed my return but missed the area where I put in my bank info for electronic deposit.   I can't get back to where it asks me what I want done with my refunds.   How do I get there??  I have not filed.

After you file

TT does not give me the option to have direct deposit of my refund. It asks if I want to put it toward next year or get a refund. When I say refund it will not give me the option for bank info. ??? What's wrong??

I have spent literally hours trying to fix this issue.

How do you find the I want my refund ?

@DeleciaMcCraigie Are you trying to find the IRS Where's My Refund site?

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20 of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

If you have already filed the return then look at the filing instruction page in the PDF of your return for the info you seek.

You have to sign onto your  online account using the exact same User ID you used to create the online account.

Close all TurboTax windows on your web browser (including this one).  Copy and paste the account recovery website link onto a new web browser window and run the tool.

Use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of all the User ID's for an email address.  Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery

If none of the user ID's received will access your  account, then use the option shown in blue on the account recovery website, "Try something else"

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF) or Download .tax file

Where are you having issues ?    If you have not yet finished the return or filed it you should log in and complete the FILE tab again to change the DD info.   If you log in and it says the return is ready to print then scroll down and click on  ADD A STATE to open the program.
