After you file
You need to wait for the IRS to process the original return. Sending an amended return before that will be a recipe for more confusion and longer delays. You say you mailed the return in December---so it has been only about a month or so since you even mailed it. It takes at least four weeks before a human at the IRS opens the envelope and puts the return into the system. You can watch for information on the IRS refund site.
You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
It is possible --- but not guaranteed -- that the IRS will catch the mistake you made with the W-2. That might put your return under review and you might get a letter. If the IRS wants more information from you they will send a letter to request it. Make sure you have a copy of that W-2 in case they ask you to send in another copy. You did include a copy when you mailed it, right?
