Can someone please help me understand why the HELL have i still not received my money?

After you file

This is a user community forum, so no one here will know anything specific, but if you explain your story someone may be able to comment.  This is a public Internet forum, so don't post any personal info.

  1. How long has it been since you filed (approximately)?
  2. How did you file--did you efile, or did you choose to print and mail a paper return to the IRS?
  3. If you efiled, was the efile accepted? (if using Online TurboTax, you can check at the Tax Home.)
  4. What is displayed when you use the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool?

NOTE:  If you filed a paper return, it can take up to 6 months or more to show up in that tool.

After you file

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2021 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

OR——if you filed by mail, expect a long wait.   It is taking the very backlogged IRS six to nine months to process mailed returns.   Until a human opens your envelope and enters the data into the system, nothing will even show up on the refund site, so you will have to be very patient.
