i am aware of the waiting period for the irs to process the return but if turbotax was being paid with my return then that would mean the irs has already sent my return somewhere. they will not pay for my taxes to be completed but hold on to the other money that is going to me. or is there something I'm not understanding

Turbo Tax sends your return to the IRS, then the IRS processes the return. Using your refund to pay for your fees does not speed up the return processing speed.
Once your return has been processed, the IRS will release your refund, and it will be sent to Santa Barbara Bank so the fees can be deducted. Then it will be sent to your account.
