Hi if I sent in my tax return by mail and they haven't yet received it, should I file again here? what is your recommendation?

After you file

Do not file again. The IRS closed their processing centers in March because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and stopped processing mailed tax returns. They just recently started to reopen the processing centers and process the mailed tax returns, but they have limited staff and a huge backlog, so it will be quite a while before your tax return is processed or any status information is available.

The IRS web site says the following.

"We're experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it.

"Do not file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return."

After you file

No do not file again.

Per the IRS website IRS Operations During COVID-19: Mission-critical functions continueThe IRS is not currently able to process individual paper tax returns. If you already have filed via paper but it has not yet been processed, do not file a second tax return or write to the IRS to inquire about the status of your return or your economic impact payment. Paper returns will be processed  once processing centers are able to reopen.

They have just started to dig through the millions of unopened mailed tax returns.  You will just have to wait and watch the IRS site to see when yours makes it to the surface and goes into processing.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20 of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:
