How was California State Income Tax withholding calculated

I received a Notice of Tax Return Change from Franchise Tax Board stating that the Tax withholding amount filled was different from their calculation. How do I find out how Turbotax calculated the amount? In the forms filled there isn't any worksheet. There is a significant difference and impacts my refund amount. Could some one let me know how to find that after filling tax. We looked up W2s/1099 and seems FTB's number seems to be correct. We import ADP W2 and 1099 from banks automatically so we shouldn't have human input error. Appreciate your help!

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state.

This will take you back to the 2019 online tax return.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen.  Then click on Print Center.  Then click on Print, save or preview this year's return.  Choose the option Include government and TurboTax worksheets

I could have written this original question - I followed the instructions but the Turbotax withholdings calculation spreadsheet just shows the same lump sum number... it doesn't show the calculation of what numbers it took from the W-2. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!

Look at the forms where the state withholding is listed ... each form has it's own worksheet.

Or you can look at your actual entries in the program  BUT  you must not make any changes to the original return ... BEFORE you start save a PDF of the original return  &   a .taxfile for safekeeping in case you mess things up accidentally.

NOTE:  When you open your return back up, do not make any changes in it if it's already been filed.  If you later have to amend the return, it has to start off exactly as it was when it was originally filed.

  • Log in and at the Tax Home or in the section "Your Tax Returns & Documents" for 2020, look for a link "Add a State."
  • Click on "Add a State."  (you don't really add one.  That's just to open your return back up.)
  • After the return is open, click in the left menu column on TAX TOOLS, then PRINT CENTER.
  • Then choose "Print, save, view this year's return."
  • The next screen should offer some options:  "Just my tax returns", or "include government worksheets (optional)", or "include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional.)"
  • See if one of those PDFs has what you need.  The latter has the most pages.

NOTE:  Remember all PDF tax documents and tax data files are very sensitive files, since they contain your personal ID info, financial data, and possibly bank account numbers, etc.  Be sure to store them safely and securely to guard against computer theft, hacking, etc.

Thank you for your quick response. My confusion is that it is showing "state withholdings on W-2" as one number (no breakdown of individual numbers included).  How can i tell what individual numbers are added together?

I should add that i went back in and didn't make any changes and the numbers in the input area for W-2 match what the State has calculated. I have no idea where Turbo Tax got its number...
