Amenment

Hi I received this letter, and now I'm trying to amend my 2017 taxes and Intuit is requesting a fee of $49.00 is that the normal when it was their problem for not letting me enter the mortgage insurance in 2017? "Dear Valued Customer, We’re reaching out because you may qualify for a tax break if you paid mortgage insurance in 2017. On Feb. 9, 2018, the government passed the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, which includes a tax break called the mortgage insurance deduction. Both private mortgage insurance (PMI) and mortgage insurance premiums (MIP) are included in this deduction (but not homeowners or hazard insurance). We’re letting you know about the updated tax law now because you filed your return before the IRS issued guidance and final changes were in place. If this applies to you, we’ve got your back. Whenever you’re ready, we’ll be here to help you amend (change) your 2017 federal return to see if this tax break benefits you. There’s no rush to amend your return because you’ll be able to amend at any time (even after this year’s April filing deadline). "

No, it was not a TurboTax problem.  It was the Congress who passed the legislation authorizing the deduction for Mortgage Insurance well after the start of the 2017 tax filing season.

There should be a phone number on the letter you received to contact TurboTax for any questions and assistance in amending the 2017 tax return.  Amending your 2017 tax return to add the Mortgage Insurance would only be necessary of you itemized your deductions using Schedule A or the that the MI would increase your itemized deduction to be greater than your standard deduction for your filing status.

OK intuit, it was nice you gave information about the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, that dealt with the mortgage, but you did not answer the question about the extra fee of $49.00. I also have to amend my 2017 and like charonhatley2000 you are trying to charge me and extra fee of $44.50 for the state, is this how your company does business???  Turbo-tax boost that they have their clients back....really!

In the Desktop program (except the Basic version) you get one free state program.  Are you trying to add a second different state?  If your return had 2 state returns in it call support and ask for the other state download.
