After you file
You cannot put a 2016 W-2 on your 2017 tax return. Each tax year must be prepared and filed separately. You have one of two possible situations:
You did not file a 2016 tax return and now you need to prepare and file it. If you need to prepare a return for 2014, 2015, or 2016 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign, and mail the return(s)

You filed a 2016 tax return and forgot to enter a W-2. If that is it, then you need to amend your 2016 tax return to include it. That income was reported to the IRS.
