We mailed our tax return yesterday but forgot to sign it? What would happen if we e-filed today?

We mailed our return because we needed to pay taxes and for the first time in 54 years forgot to sign it.  I understand the IRS will return the 1040 for signature, but will that cause a penalty?  What would happen if we were to e-file?  Is there a place to advise that we have sent in the return with a check?

After you file

I would not advise e-filing your return.

The IRS will return the forms for you to sign.
