I just received my federal tax return of $1,118.69. However, Turbotax said I'd get $1,525 back. Why didn't I get the full amount?
My federal tax return is less than what Turbotax said I would get. Why?

After you file
Sometimes refunds are lower than expected if you elect to have TurboTax fees deducted from your refund, or if you have an offset.
Sometimes the IRS makes adjustments or withholds part or all of a refund to cover certain debts. Examples of these debts include:
- Past-due child support;
- Federal agency non-tax debts;
- State income tax obligations; or
- Certain unemployment compensation debts owed to a state
If you have an offset you will receive a letter within a few days of your refund explaining the difference, or you can contact the Bureau of the Fiscal Service to find out why and how much at 800-304-3107 or TDD 866-297-0517, Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST.
