After you file

You do need to file a return for your spouse but you don't have to include it with your 1040x.

f you're mailing two or more tax returns to the IRS at the same time, consider placing each in its own envelope, then place each of those envelopes into a larger envelope.

can i efile the return for my spouse?

Not sure why you are switching to MFS since it is usually the worst way to file, but if you are making that switch, you have to do it before the filing deadline of April 15, 2019.  After the filing deadline you are not allowed to change from MFJ to MFS.

Not if you originally efiled. Her social security number will show as already used in the efile system.

My pleasure. It is not required but when I send returns to the IRS, I do it return receipt requested.
