Get your taxes done using TurboTax

@Lelaw8186 Your question is being posted from online Self-Employed Live--which costs $199 + $54 for each state return you prepare.   That version of the software provides live expert help, and is a paid version of the software.    It is not possible to use the Free Edition of TurboTax for a tax return on which you need to enter self-employment income and prepare a schedule C for your business expenses.   Even if you started in the Free Edition, as soon as you began to enter self-employment income, there would have been prompts and screen alerts to upgrade to a higher paid version.

The Free Edition that they advertise can only be used for VERY simple returns that do not use any of the extra schedules or forms that can be part of a Form 1040.

*A simple tax return is Form 1040 only.

Situations covered in TurboTax Free Edition include:

  • W-2 income
  • Limited interest and dividend income reported on a 1099-INT or 1099-DIV
  • Claiming the standard deduction
  • Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC)
  • Child tax credits
  • Student Loan Interest deduction

Situations not covered in TurboTax Free Edition include:

  • Itemized deductions
  • Unemployment income reported on a 1099-G
  • Business or 1099-NEC income
  • Stock sales
  • Rental property income
  • Credits, deductions and income reported on schedules 1-3

Even if you upgraded to Self-Employed Live, prepared several state returns and added extra features like MAX, Audit Defense, etc. it would not be possible for you to reach a total near $2000 for using the software.   Was that a typo?  Do you mean you paid $200?

And.....if you used the paid version of the software and filed the return, then you are not likely going to be able to get a refund from TurboTax.   But --as stated above---you will have to have that conversation with customer support.   We cannot resolve billing issues in the user forum.

No one in the user forum can resolve a billing issue.  If you have a question about your TurboTax fees or billing, make sure you use the word “billing” in your request for help.  Do not use the word “refund.”
