Your wife should say no. She would still be able to claim the $1,400.
How are you splitting the kids? Are you both claiming one or are one of you claiming both? If you are claiming both kids then you would enter that you received the $4,200 as this would be for you and the 2 kids.
If she is claiming one and you are claiming one then you would enter that you received $2,800 and she would enter that she received $1,400. Basically, make the money follow the person that received it on the return.
If you are filing jointly, it doesn't matter how you allocate it. You can enter that you received $4,200 since the numbers are combined and she would still get the extra $1,400.
