Very complicated: about 3rd stimulus check on Turbo tax with changing filing status and spouse received SSN
Hello,
I have a very complicated situation. It is when I'm filling out the economic impact payment amount session (letter 6475) in turbo tax. Here is the situation: Our family received totally 4200 to my account (two kids and me; my wife didn't have SSN back to that time) for the 3rd stimulus check in March 2021, and the letter 6475 split it to half to my wife and me (2100 for each). In August 2021, my wife received SSN and started working. Before 2021, we all filed tax jointly, abut due to some children fellowship issue the working place asked us to file separately in the 2021 return. In my turbotax, it asked if I received $4200. Should I say yes or no? In my wife's turbo tax page, they asked if she received $1400 (turbotax don't know that she didn't have SSN when issuing the 3rd stimulus check). Should she say yes or no? If no, what amount? If we both say no and enter $2100 for each of us, I will receive additional $2100, which doesn't make sense.
Thank you all. Very complicated issue because my wife received SSN after the stimulus check and we somehow changed the filing type this year.
