I need to file my taxes for 2020 as I'm a contractor but It's only showing and allowing me to file for 2019. I started working in 2020, not 2019 - please help me.

I work from home and started 05/04/2020 as a contractor. Need to file my taxes by the 09/16/2020 but I can't change 2019 TAXES to 2020 TAXES.

The tax return for 2020 cannot be filed until tax year 2020 closes after 12/31/2020.

The TurboTax software for 2020 will be available in November 2020.  The TurboTax online editions for 2020 will be available in December 2020.

If you are an independent contractor you will be reporting your income and expenses on Schedule C which is part of and included with your personal tax return Form 1040.  The 2020 Form 1040 and Schedule C is filed during calendar year 2021.

Why do you think the 2020 return for an independent contractor needs to be filed on or before 9/16/2020?

No one will be filing a 2020 tax return until tax year 2020 ends after December 31, 2020.  In 2021 taxpayers will begin to prepare and file 2020 tax returns--not before.

You may be confused about how the tax years work, or you are confused about paying quarterly estimated tax since you are an independent contractor.  You do not file a tax return for 2020 at this time.  You might need or want to pay some estimated tax for 2020.  You can do that on the IRS site or you can print and mail a 1040ES with a check or money order.

I’m new to the country and I was told as I’m a contractor I need to file my tax every 3 months. Is this not correct?

No.  That is not correct.

You may have to pay estimated taxes as an independent contractor but your tax return is only filed once after the close of the tax year.

See this IRS website for estimated taxes - https://www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/estimated-taxes

To complete and file a 2020 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2020 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

A 2020 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed.
