Get your taxes done using TurboTax

He should not try to use pay stubs.  They rarely match the W-2.  The employer should have issued a W-2 by the end of January.  Contact the employer to obtain the W-2.  

 

And....you said this tax return is for a U.S. resident---just make sure you should be using TurboTax--if the person in question is a non-resident alien, you cannot use TT.

 

NON RESIDENT ALIEN 

If you are a non-resident alien, your return must be filed on Form 1040NR, which cannot be prepared using TurboTax.  You can use TT’s partner, sprintax:

And....no, you do not reduce the standard deduction.  Get the W-2, enter the income and let the software do all the calculations.
