How to Get Sign-In Code by E-Mail, Not by Text?

Every time I sign in to TurboTax, it insists on sending me a sign-in code first, even though I am in the same brower session on the same device, and even though two-step verification is turned off.

Originally, TT sent the code by e-mail, which worked fine. Then I made the mistake of giving TT my phone number. Without asking my preference, TT switched to sending the code by text.

I do not receive TT’s text messages reliably. I want to get the codes by e-mail. But I see no setting for that option in my account profile. Does it exist?

I considered turning on two-step verification, but that does not offer the option of e-mail either.
