I show my State income tax on W-2 as 653.00 and local as 340.00. Is it correct that my taxes paid is based on local income tax?

The taxes you pay depend on the income your earned in the United States (Federal Taxes), what you earned in your state (State Taxes), and what you earned in a particular locality (Local Taxes).

This does not help me. I think my State taxes were just filed incorrectly by Turbo tax. Turbo tax used local taxes paid in lieu of state taxes paid, which were clearly shown on the w-2 I snapshot for the app. Can you please help me correct this. I cannot afford a 300+ mistake. They were filed about an hour ago. Please help!

I am sorry you are having trouble.  Since you have already filed your returns you may need to file an amended return.

First, check your return to see if it accurate, here is how:

  1. While in your Tax Home,
  2. Tax Tools on the left hand side of your screen,
  3. Select Tools,
  4. Select View Tax Summary,
  5. Select Preview my State Return on the left hand side of your screen.

If you find any errors, you will have to file an amended return to correct it.  For information on how to file an amended return use this link:  How to file an amended return.
