1.We moved from New York to Virginia in May.Can TT Deluxe handle this? 2.In the past, we have used the CD version of TT. Can we transfer that info to the online version?

We moved in May from New York to Virginia and wonder if TurboTax Deluxe makes it easy to divide our state taxes between these two states or if we should use a CPA this year.

Second question is because our daughter recommends the online version over the CD.

Get your taxes done using TurboTax

You can file a part year state tax returns using TurboTax.  In the My Info section you are asked to enter your resident state which is where you reside as of 12/31/2017.  You are also asked if you lived in another states and the date you moved to your resident state.  The TurboTax program will guide you in entering the income for each state and the state taxes withheld from your income.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for filing state tax return in multiple states - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1900021-when-would-i-have-to-file-returns-in-more-than-one-state

And - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901560-how-do-i-file-if-i-moved-to-a-different-state-last-year

If you are using the TurboTax desktop CD/Download editions you receive one free state program download included in the purchase price.  To add another different state program you will need to purchase and download that state by clicking on Online at the top of the desktop program screen and click on Download State (current price is $39.99).

If you choose to use the TurboTax online editions then you can transfer the 2016 tax data file from your computer to the 2017 online edition.  See this TurboTax support FAQ for transferring tax data to the online editions - <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/3006086-can-i-transfer-a-2016-turbotax-return-from-my-computer-to-...>

Note - Using the TurboTax online editions the state programs are an additional charge of $36.99 for each state program.
