If someone else can claim me on my Federal return then why do I get the standard $6300 deduction?

When you are claimed as a dependent, it is your personal exemption ($4,050) and, if you are a student, any educational credit you are entitled to receive, that go on the return of whomever is claiming you as a dependent.

You are still entitled to your standard deduction of $6,300 even if you are claimed as a dependent.
