Follow these steps to enter the sale of a second home (reported on Form 1099-S) in TurboTax Online:
- Continue your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return. Make sure you are in the Federal and not the state section.)
- Click the drop-down arrow next to Tax Tools (lower left side of your screen).
- Select Tools (under Tax Tools).
- In the pop-up window, select Topic Search.
- In the I'm looking for: box, type sold second home.
- In the results box, highlight sold second home, then click GO.
- Answer Yes when asked Did you sell any investments in 2017? (Note: If you land on Here's the investment sale info we have so far, select Add More Sales.)
- Answer No to the 1099-B question.
- On the next screen, select Second Home then click Continue.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to completion.
