If you are legally blind your standard deduction is higher.  That means that a bit less of your income is taxable.  Not sure what you mean by "not a dependent but listed on the return."  Are you filing a joint return with a spouse?

2017 Standard Deductions

Single    $6350  (65 or older + $1550)

Married Filing Separately   $6350  (65 or older +  $1250)

Married Filing Jointly           $12,700  (65 or older + $1250@)

Head of Household $9350  (65 or older + $1550)

If you are legally blind then the standard deduction increases by $1250 on a joint return; or by $1550 if you are single or head of household.
