Can I file married filing separately federal return for me and my spouse and married filing joint for state (Georgia)?

Due to student loan rules, it's actually better for us to file separately for federal and jointly for state, but I don't see this option mentioned anywhere. Help! Is this an option in Georgia?

The filing status rules for Georgia are as follows:

You should use the same status that you used on your Federal return. However if one spouse is a resident and the other is a non-resident without any Georgia source income, your Georgia return may be filed jointly or seperately with each spouse claiming the appropriate personal allowances and deductions. I would look at filing seperately on both the Federal and State and compare it with filing jointly on both to see which is better for you.
