Can I write off my gas instead of mileage and include it in with other deductions?

As an independent contractor, if you use your vehicle for business purposes, you have a choice of what to deduct. However, whether you deduct the standard 56 cents per business mile for 2021, or your actual expenses, there is a requirement to keep a log of your mileage to prove the business expense.
