inheritance

Generally speaking, inherited property is not income. This is true for state tax purposes as well. It should not matter whether the property that you inherited is in the state that you live in, another state, or even another country. Another type of tax is Estate tax, but this applies to the person who gave the property not the one that received it.

However, to be clear, this no tax only applies to receiving the property as an inheritance. If the property you received changes in value or produces income after being transferred to you, this is your own income, not just an inheritance anymore.
