Where do I enter my 1098 mortgage interest statement?

Form 1098 (Mortgage Interest Statement) shows how much mortgage interest, points, and (often) real estate/property tax you paid in the previous year.

If you didn't get a Form 1098 from your mortgage company by early February, you might be able to find this information on January's mortgage statement. Contact your lender if you need help understanding Form 1098 or think that any information is missing.

To enter your 1098 in TurboTax, select your product below and follow the instructions.

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. Select Search, enter 1098, and select Jump to 1098. If that doesn't work:
    • Select either Tax Home or Federal, then Deductions & Credits.
    • Under Your Home (you may have to select See all tax breaks to find it), select Start or Revisit next to Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098).
  3. Answer Yes to Did you pay any home loans in 2023?
  4. On the Let's get your 1098 form screen, enter the name of your lender to see if you can import your 1098.
    • If you can't or don't want to import, select Change how I enter my form to upload, take a picture of, or manually enter your 1098.
  5. Continue through the screens until your 1098 is added.

  2. Select Search, enter 1098, and select Add/edit Form 1098. If that doesn't work:
    • Select Federal Taxes, then Deductions & Credits.
    • Under Your Home, select Start or Update next to Mortgage Interest, Points, Refinancing, and Insurance.
  3. Answer Yes on the screen Did you pay any home loans in 2023?
  4. Continue through the screens until your 1098 is added.
  1. Select Deductions & Credits on Tax Home to open your return.
  2. Select Your Home and select Mortgage Interest and Refinancing (Form 1098).
    • You may need to select See all tax breaks to find this section.
  3. Answer Yes to Did you pay any home loans in 2023? then Continue.
  4. Enter the name of your mortgage lender.
  5. Follow the instructions to enter the rest of the information on your 1098 form.
