My scholarship exceeded the amount of tuition When I file that tax return they would say my income is the $1000 that was left after tuition or what was given originally?
The details of what I'm trying to find out is my mom is filing me as a dependent but my scholarship money given to me by my school last year exceeded the tuition by $1000. So it said I would have to claim that money as income. So when I file my taxes would they say the $1000 is my income or the money that was given to me in scholarship money originally . Because the money I had left over from my scholarships didn't cover the materials and books that I needed my parent had to pay the rest . I have no income other than that and I'm 24 now .
