If I have a dependent that is a full time student but also worked and made over $8000 can I claim them and get the credit?

Yes, you can claim your child as a dependent if they are under the age of 24 and were a full time student in 2016, as long as they did NOT provide more than half of their own support, and you meet all the other requirements.
