Question

I have student loans out in my name, but I do not have to pay them back yet since I have not graduated yet. Do I need to file them on my tax return?

No. There is no reporting requirement for student loans on your Form 1040 Individual Income Tax Return.

When your student loans go into repayment, you may take, as an adjustment to income on Schedule 1 (Form 1040), line 33, a deduction for qualified student loan interest paid, up to $2,500 per tax return (not per student).
