Question

Why does TurboTax show federal taxes paid under deductions if I can't deduct federal taxes?

I'm new to itemizing my taxes, and I want to make sure I understand what's going on. Everything I read seems to say you can't include federal taxes as a deduction -- just state. So why does Turbotax seem to auto-fill my deductions w/ federal taxes paid?

Don't let that worry you ... it is only listed so users can see what they entered and it went in the deductions & credits section because it isn't income.  And there are a couple of states that do allow a deduction of the federal taxes paid.  Ignore the summary screens and just focus on the actual tax return forms ... that is where the true picture lies.
